They are all walking in some kind of sleep
Down by the river a band does play
But they cannot hear it, spellbound on their way
What if they woke up, what if they try

Hypnotized scene - people drawn downstream
An artist is painting what they seem to mean
Whenever he tries the colors turn to haze
& there is a hole where there should be a face
life can be easy, don't hesitate
it tells you to run, and you run
puppets on strings they operate
Serving the powers they hate till it's too late
What if they wake up, what if they try
What if they live before they die
What if they find out, what if they see
There's nothing left for them to be
What if they notice they missed their chance
Wasting their lives away in trance
What if they think of what they have sold
Feel kind of hungry, they can't live on gold
Why don't they wake up, why don't they try
Why can't they live before they die
Don't they remember what they can do
Seems it ain't true, it just cannot be true.
